Special Needs and Inclusion

At the heart of our school ethos is the commitment to helping all children reach their fullest potential.

We do this by treating every child as an individual, each with their own needs.  Sometimes children may need additional support, resources or accommodations to help them in school.  Mrs Dunne is the Learning Support Coordinator and works closely with the classroom staff, parents and children to put these measures in place to make sure all the children have what they need.

Newtownards Nursery School is now proud to have a Specialist Provision Class, for children with severe learning difficulties.  Catering for 6 children in our well resourced class with 4 very experienced members of staff.  The children have their own classroom and sensory room and are able to be integrated with the mainstream classes for many activities when the children are ready.

There is a place for every child at Newtownards Nursery School and we promote an Anti-Bias approach to the pre-school curriculum.  Everyone is seen, valued and celebrated.  We try our best to ensure all children and families can see themselves represented in our resources and feel a warm sense of belonging as part of our school community.

All the staff are very well trained in a wide range of strategies and intervention programmes to support children's development and learning.

If you have any questions about inclusion or how Newtownards Nursery School meets the needs of all children or promotes inclusion and celebrates diversity please contact Mrs Dunne for more information.
