About Us

Newtownards Nursery School is a bright, airy, purpose-built double unit school.  A maximum of 52 children are admitted through the admissions process each school year, for our 2 mainstream classes. 6 children are admitted to our Specialist Provision Class each year through the EA Statutory Assessment Team.  All places are full time with sessions operating from 9.00am - 1.30pm for the mainstream classes (Fox and Hedgehog classes) and 9.15am-1.45pm for our specialist provision class (Squirrel Class).

The school has recently undergone considerable extension and refurbishment and the accommodation now comprises three bright and welcoming classrooms each with their own quiet room.  The classrooms lead onto a covered safe-surface play area leading to a hard surface, a grassed area and a large sand house.  The children access and experience the outdoors every day in all weathers.  We also have a newly installed sensory room.

Staff are committed to working together to ensure that everyone feels welcome, safe, respected, included and valued.  Children are taught by 3 qualified and experienced teachers, one of whom is the Principal, supported by a team of Nursery Assistants, all highly trained and dedicated.

Our values underpin our practice.  We believe that quality early years care and education is about developing strong, curious, confident children.  It is about extending their joy, fascination and wonder at the world around them, about developing concentration, commitment and deep involvement.  Encouraging them to reach for the stars!  We create an active and interactive learning environment that is both repetitive for children and responsive to their changing learning needs and interests.  The school's extensive range or resources and equipment are introduced in stages throughout the year, to ensure the curriculum is age and stage appropriate and supports learning.

The routine of the day is organised to support children's learning in different contexts with extended periods of time available for children to become engaged and involved in learning.
